Free: Drop-in Day Camp at Gaston County Museum

Here’s one for Gaston County families, or those who don’t mind a little drive for a great experience: Gaston County Museum, at 131 W. Main Street in Dallas, is offering a free drop-in day camp for kids age 5-12 for several weeks this summer of 2015. This program includes hands-on activities, games, and crafts focused on a new topic every week. This year the focus is on what life was like in historic Dallas in the 1800s. Though this program is designed for children between the ages of 5 and 12, Moms, Dads, toddlers, and grandparents are invited to come join the fun. June 11: Court Day
This week we will jump back in time to explore the Old Courthouse and experience what “A Day at Court” was like in the town of Dallas. This program will include a memorable mock trial where everyone gets a chance to participate.

June 18: Summer Day at the Hoffman Hotel
This week we will be looking at what a summer day in the hotel would be like in the 1800s. Everyone has chores and duties. Well, that was true in the past too. There will be plenty of fun games for all ages and the program will also include a gardening activity that the children can take home with them.

June 25: Textile Day
This week we will be looking at early textile mills of Gaston County. This area was a leader in textile production not only in North Carolina but also for all of the United States. Campers will get to experience what life was like in a textile mill while also practicing their sewing skills.

July 2: Independence Celebration
This week we will look at how people celebrated July 4th in the 1800s. The program will include fun crafts, activities, and games that celebrate America’s birthday.
