It’s the time of year to get the old band back together. The Mariachi band, that is. Or you can just participate in one of the many free Cinco de Mayo celebrations that are taking place all over Charlotte. Although May 5th falls on Monday, you’ll find ways to celebrate this weekend too. Here are a few things going on. Know of others? Leave a comment for other Charlotte on the Cheap readers. Follow each link to see the necessary details for the event.
- Salsa-Thon: Saturday, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 300 South Tryon Street. Salsa dance contests, as well as live music, artist zone and a kids’ zone.
- Salsa tasting and contest: If the Salsa dancing makes you hungry, head to 7th Street Public Market Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. You can taste specially made salsas and vote for your favorite.
- Fanta Festival: Sunday 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., Route 29 Pavilion. 5650 Sandusky Blvd in Concord (across from the Speedway.) It’s the 7th year for this popular festival, which features internationally known music acts, celebrity appearances, dance, children’s games, food and more.

- Free guacamole: On Monday, get a free side of spicy guac from any of the 14 Charlotte area Moe’s Southwest Grill locations, while supplies last.
