The public is invited to Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Aerospace Symposium at Wingate University, a free event on Wednesday, April 17th, 2019, at 6 p.m.
It takes place at Wingate University Batte Center, 403 N. Camden Road, Wingate.
This is a free event.
Speakers at the symposium include:
- Dr. Andrew Aldrin, son of Apollo 11 Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin
- Dr. Kathryn Thornton, 4 time Space Shuttle Astronaut
- Dr. Jim Rice, Mars rover senior scientist
Schedule:
- 6:00 – 6:45 p.m.: Presentations by Drs. Aldrin and Thornton highlighting the personal impact of Apollo 11 and how it shaped their lives.
- 7:00 – 8:15 p.m.: Panel Discussion with Drs. Aldrin, Thornton, and Rice. The panel will take questions from the audience discussing current aerospace initiatives, the newly announced decision to return to the Moon in the next 5 years, private vs. government space flight, among others.
- 8:30 – 9:30 p.m.: Telescope viewing
- 8:30 – 10:30 p.m.: A free movie showing of Apollo 11, The Documentary
