Discovery Place Science hosting Artemis 1 launch livestream at IMAX Aug 29

Discovery Place Science is hosting a livestream of the launch of NASA’s Artemis on Monday, August 29th, 2022. This livestream event will be the most dramatic launch watch party in the Charlotte area, as it will take place at the Accenture IMAX Dome Theatre, which boasts a 7-story dome screen. This is the largest IMAX screen n the Carolinas.

Livestream coverage begins at 8 a.m., and doors to the Accenture IMAX Dome Theatre open at 7:45 a.m.

Tickets are $10. All ages are welcome. 

The first in a series of increasingly complex missions, Artemis I will lay the foundation for deep space exploration and humans returning to the Moon! This livestream event will capture the first integrated test of NASA’s Orion spacecraft, Space Launch System Rocket and the ground systems at the Kennedy Space Center.

The Artemis I Mission features the most powerful rocket flown to date. Feel the rumble of the engines through the theatre with 12,000 watts of heart-pounding sound. Five separate cameras will be used to capture the historic take-off, including high speed cameras surrounding the launchpad, all of which will be showcased during the livestreaming event.

An interesting fact about Artemis: At 322 feet tall, it’s taller than the Statue of Liberty, which is 305 feet tall.

As you know if you’re watched launch events in the past, it might be delayed. Backup launch dates are Friday, September 2nd, and Monday, September 5th, 2022.

If you buy a ticket and the launch is delayed, it will be honored at a backup launch event, but tickets are non-refundable.
