“Artistry in Woodturning,” an exhibit of works by members of the Southern Piedmont Woodturners, Inc. (SPW), will be up from Saturday, July 30th through August 27 in the Main Gallery at ClearWater Artist Studios, 223 Crowell Drive NW, in Concord.
The Opening Reception for ‘Artistry in Woodturning’ is Saturday, July 30, 2016, 1pm-4pm; with an Artist Talk to be given at 2:00 p.m. by Charles Farrar, noted local artist and curator of the current show, ‘Shaping the Vessel,’ at the Harvey B. Gantt Center for African- American Culture + Art. This show will feature 60-some turned works by members that are exemplary of the artistry possible within this craft. The show will also include works by ClearWater’s resident leather-smith.
SPWoodturners Studio and the ClearWater Gallery will be open each Saturday in August, 11am-4pm, to allow access to the show, and feature turning demonstrations. On August 13th, in conjunction with ClearWater’s regular ‘2nd Saturday Open Studios’ series, they will be joined by the other resident artists (16 total) in the ClearWater Studios complex, who will have studios open while they work and be available for questions/ observing. This day the Studios will open at 10am (closing at 4pm).
