1619: Not My Beginning, Not My End is a free interactive, family-friendly exhibit that explores the power of Africa before 1619.
The exhibit will take place Saturday, March 5th, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will be at the Baxter-Polk House, 1015 W. 4th Street, Charlotte, in the Third Ward.
Enjoy a self-guided tour, as well as a marketplace of Black-owned businesses.
All ages are welcome.
Community members will share in a collaborative space to walk through the historic Baxter Polk house located in Third Ward community in Charlotte, while learning about the power of the African people and the African continent before their arrival in the U. S. and the transatlantic slave trade in 1619.
From the Empire of Ghana to the Sahara Desert, the untold stories of a powerful people has often been ignored, overlooked and even erased, but this exhibit brings to life and celebrates the prosperity of the people.
Learn about trading, geography, kings, the roles of men and women and so much more.
Donations are accepted to support the exhibit and college scholarships.
The Baxter-Polk House has been designated as a historic site for Dr. Mildred Baxter Davis and Jim Polk, who both served Charlotte’s African-American community for many years.
