Discovery Place Science’s exhibit Science of Ripley’s Believe It or Not, running through September 4th, 2017, presents an “extraordinary collection of intriguing objects and astonishing artifacts from Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Go places you’ve never imagined and explore the real science behind the unbelievable.”
This weekend, Saturday, June 17th, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, June 18th, 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., the durator from Ripley’s Archives will be at Discovery Place Science and will be appraising the weird stuff from guests’ houses.
If you bring something in to be appraised at the Bizarre Buying Bazaar, you’ll get a $5 discount on admission. And you might get an offer to purchase it on the spot.
There will be a table at 6th Street Admissions where you can redeem the discount.
Here’s more information:
Think Antique Road Show meets Ripley’s Believe It or Not. The head curator from Ripley’s Archives will be visiting to appraise some of the weirdest items in Charlotte. Edward Myer has served as the Vice President of Exhibits and Archives for Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! for over 40 years, and has acquired over 20,000 different museum artifacts: everything from a pin valued at $1 million dollars, to a two-trunked elephant, to Marilyn Monroe’s lingerie, to Lee Harvey Oswald’s mortuary toe tag, to a meteorite from Mars.
We are inviting Charlotteans to bring their strange items to the Bizarre Buying Bazaar to have their oddities appraised. If it meets our strange standards, it could be purchased on the spot to become a permanent artifact for Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!, the most iconic collection of oddities in the world.
Oddity owners planning to attend the Bizarre Buying Bazaar are encouraged to RSVP to Angela Johnson at johnson@ripleys.com in advance and provide some details on the item they want to bring in. That will allow Ripley’s research team to see what they can find out about the particular items of interest in advance.
