The New York Times bestselling humorist David Sedaris is visiting Main Street Books, 126 S. Main Street, Davidson, to promote the release of his forthcoming book, Calypso, on Thursday, May 31st.
Although the event in Main Street Books is sold out, Main Streets is organizing a town-wide block party in the parking lot between Summit Coffee and Ben & Jerry’s.
It’s free to attend.
At 6 p.m., Sedaris will offer remarks inside the store to ticket-holding fans. Main Street Books will stream audio from inside the store to outside party-goers.
After Sedaris has signed in-store guests’ books, which the store estimates will be around 8 p.m., Sedaris will be escorted to the outdoor party, where he will sign books and chat with every reader who waits in line to meet him.
The theme of the party, inspired by the title of Sedaris’ forthcoming book, is CalypsOlympics. Festivities will include stations facilitating friendly, Sedaris-themed competitions, the Gyro Twins Food Truck, live music, and a signing table where Sedaris will meet with all of his fans.
Although most store-organized festivities will wrap up at 10 p.m., the party itself will continue until every guest has had an opportunity to meet Sedaris.
