North Carolina is known for scenic mountains, great hiking and award-winning wines. Now you can enjoy all three in one convenient package.
The tourism office in Beech Mountain, the highest town east of the Rockies, offers special hike and wine packages for $199, plus tax, from April to November. The packages eliminate the guess work because they include two nights from your choice of nine lodging options, two trail maps to almost 30 miles of trails (many just outside your door), and a tasting for two at Banner Elk Winery.
This deal also includes two passes to the town’s Buckeye Recreation Center. And, you can add a second tasting for two at Linville Falls Winery for just $15.
Located about two and a half hours from Charlotte, Beech Mountain is a high-altitude hiking paradise. Trails range from easy to strenuous and several provide panoramic views of the North Carolina High Country.
Because of the town’s 5,506-foot elevation, summer temperatures are typically in the low to mid 70s and rarely exceed 79 degrees, even on the hottest days.
And when the hiking is done, enjoy a scenic drive to a tasting at Banner Elk Winery. The winery was one of the first to open in the North Carolina mountains and produces award-winning wines from such varietals as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese and Seyval Blanc.
In addition to the hiking and wine tasting, Beech Mountain features several restaurants within walking distance of lodging. Another fun option for couples is a romantic trip to the 5506’ Skybar at top of the mountain, where they can sip a beverage and take in sweeping vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The town also has a nice mix of shops and pubs. For more information on Beech Mountain’s hike and wine packages, call 800-468-5506 or visit: www.BeechMtn.com/deals
