Note: The Walmart promotion is reported to have ended early.
Walmart and Target are each running programs in September to encourage customers to trade in outgrown child car seats, in conjunction with National Baby Safety Month.
Walmart’s Car Seat Trade-In Program
At Walmart, bring in an old car seat from September 16th to September 30th, 2019, and you’ll get a $30 Walmart gift card.
The card can be used in-store or online to buy items for your baby.
Limit of 2 gift cards per household. Booster seats are not eligible for trade-in.
All car seats collected in this program will be recycled through TerraCycle, and each component will be diverted from the landfill.
Read Walmart’s press release for more information.
Target’s Car Seat Trade-In Program
Meanwhile, Target is accepting car seat trade-ins from September 3rd to September 13th, 2019.
When you bring your car seat to Guest Services you’ll get a coupon for 20% off a new car seat, stroller or select baby gear. The coupon is valid through September 14th, 2019.
With Target’s car seat trade-in program, you can bring in all types of car seats, including infant seats, convertible seats, car seat bases, harness or booster car seats and car seats that are expired or damaged.
Materials from the old car seats will be recycled by Target’s partner, Waste Management.
