From 11 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. on October 15th, 2016, Uptown’s First Ward will be awash in writers. Poets, novelists, screenwriters, playwrights, comedy writers, lyricists and storytellers all will be in Charlotte as part of Carolinas WordFest.
Designed to engage and inspire writers and readers alike, the day-long festival will take
place at six venues across First Ward. Carolinas WordFest features more than 20
writers who are North or South Carolina natives or current residents.
The first-time festival is the brainchild of the Charlotte Writers’ Club, which partnered
with like-minded organizations from around the region.
The events all take place within a short walk. Venues include First Ward Park, ImaginOn, Spirit Square and the Main Library. Activities for children include a pumpkin patch, storytelling and book-making. Activities for young adults and adults include Improv, writing workshops, a book market, discussion, storytelling, spoken word poetry, the reading of plays and more.
The events at First Ward Park, the Main Library and ImaginOn go until 5 p.m. Evening activities take place at Spirit Square.
