On Saturday, May 18, 2024, Carrigan Farms is planning to open their natural quarry to swimmers for the season.
Swimming at the Carrigan Farms quarry is definitely not the least expensive way to swim in the Charlotte region, but it’s worth a mention in case you can swing a splurge. This is the most beautiful, natural place in the area to swim. Swimmers can swim in the quarry, jump off the rocks, and jump in after swinging on the rope swing.
Admission also includes catch-and-release fishing at two farm ponds, which are stocked with bass, bream, and crappie. Make sure to bring your own fishing gear.
The entrance to the quarry is 1213 Oak Ridge Farm Highway, Mooresville, 28115. The price starts at $25 a person.
Hours are 10 am. to 3 p.m., with select evenings from 3:45 p.m. to sunset.
Reservations are open now for early dates, through June 2, 2024. Reservations for additional dates will open up throughout the season. If you make an online reservation, you’ll need to pay a $5 deposit per person deposit at the time of the reservation. That $5 will become a dining voucher. The remaining portion of admission is due when you arrive. Only cash is accepted at the gate.
Only cash is accepted at the gate.
The Quarry Kitchen is a take-out window that serves family favorites like the Quarry Burger, grilled chicken sandwiches, scratch-made pizza, fresh salads, fruit cups, ice cream, and snow cones.
Lifeguards are on duty during open swim. All people entering the water must wear a live vest unless they have taken and passed Carrigan Farm’s swim test. Only people 12 and older can take the swim test, so everyone under 12 must wear a swim vest no matter what. You can wear your own life vest or one that’s available at Carrigan Farms. The farm’s smallest life vests are for children weighing 30 pounds or more. Everyone must sign a waiver.
What to bring
Bring your waiver confirmation, a towel, sunblock, swim suit, water shoes, sunglasses, hat, blanket or chair. You can bring a small personal float.
Do not bring
Food or drink, coolers, drones, outside music, large floats, pets. Smoking is not allowed.
Food options
The Quarry Kitchen serves grilled hamburgers, veggie burgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, french fries, slushies and snowballs.
Fishing
Open swim customers who bring their own fishing gear may enjoy catch-and-release fishing at the two farm ponds during open swim. The ponds have bass, bream and crappie. Fishing is not permitted in The Quarry, or at non-open swim times. All fishing is catch-and-release, meaning that the fish cannot be taken home and must be returned to the pond.
Weather
Most summer weather forecasts include a chance of rain. The Quarry is open rain or shine, unless otherwise noted on the website. The Facebook page is probably a good place to look for updates as well. If it’s not listed as “closed for rain” it’s open (on the dates and times on the calendar.) If they have to close early for the weather, they do not offer refunds or passes for another day.
