Charlotte Folk Society maintains a lending library of musical instruments at Plaza Presbyterian Church, 2304 The Plaza. They’re holding an open house on Saturday, November 5th, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. If you’ve always wanted to try a banjo, violin, mandolin, etc. this is a great opportunity to try one out. While you’re there, you can talk to them and learn how to borrow one at no or minimal cost. After the open house there will be a jam session, geared toward beginners and young musicians.
Here are some details, from Charlotte Folk Society’s website:
The library will be open for instrument pick up/drop off from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Afterwards, stick around for a jam session starting at 12 p.m. targeted for youth/beginners. All instruments are welcome! We will jam until 1:30 or so. What a great way to hone your jamming skills playing old time, bluegrass, or other favorites in a relaxed setting or to try out a new instrument from the library! Please come out on November 5th!
The library is located at Plaza Presbyterian Church, 2304 The Plaza, in the Plaza-Midwood neighborhood of Charlotte. Instruments can be borrowed for up to two months at no charge ($30 deposit) and for up to two additional months if no one is waiting. If borrowing beyond two months, your deposit will be converted to a donation to CFS to support future acquisitions/repairs/accessories for the instrument library.
Our current inventory of instruments includes violins, banjos, mandolins, guitars, a lap harp, djembe, and more. The library is always accepting donations. Donated instruments should be in good enough repair and sufficient quality as to not frustrate a beginner. In addition to the open house hours, the library is always open by appointment and pick-ups/drop offs can also be made at monthly CFS gatherings.
