On Friday, May 20th, 2016, and Saturday, May 21st, enjoy the evenings and FREE outdoor PlazaCasts of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra performance of Romeo and Juliet, which will be taking place inside Knight Theater. The concerts start at 7:30 p.m. both evenings. Bring a chair or blanket and set up at Levine Center for the Arts. The concerts will be broadcast live, outdoors, for free.
About the concert:
This year, the Symphony will team up with Charlotte Ballet, the UNC-Charlotte Department of Theatre, and soprano Melinda Whittington to tell Shakespeare’s timeless tale, Romeo & Juliet.
Music Director Christopher Warren-Green will conduct the KnightSounds finale concert inside Knight Theater at Levine Center for the Arts.
The performance will feature in-theater screens with close-up camera angles of Warren-Green and the orchestra while a live feed simultaneous shows the concert on a 9.5- by 16-foot high-definition LED screen outside on the plaza.
Musical selections will include Tchaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture and Prokofiev’s Balcony Scene Pas de Deux from Romeo & Juliet.
Scenes from Romeo & Juliet will be performed by UNC-Charlotte Department of Theatre students and directed by Robinson Distinguished Professor of Shakespeare Andrew Hartley.
Chickspeare, Charlotte’s all-female Shakespeare Company, will present “A Quickie with Romeo & Juliet” outside on the Levine plaza stage following the concert.
