On Saturday, May 3, 2025, Cornelius Parks & Recreation is hosting their first ever Cardboard Boat Regatta. It will take place Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Ramsey Creek Park, 18551 Nantz Road, Cornelius, North Carolina.
Teams will race homemade boats consisting primarily of cardboard and duct tape on Lake Norman.
Awards will be given for the winners of the boat race, as well as in the categories of best decorated, best sinking and people’s choice. Check back soon for the rules.
The cost to race is $25 per team for Cornelius residents and $35 per team for non-residents. Only one member of the team (preferably the captain) needs to register. Registration opens March 19, 2025. Registration fees will be donated to the Joshua Murray Boating Safety Center.
All team members must be at least 8 years old.
It’s free to watch the races.
If you need large cardboard for your boat, you can pick some up at Cornelius Town Hall on March 7, from 4 to 6 p.m., and April 5, from 12 to 1 p.m.
