Would you like to eat more local produce? A great way to eat local, as well as to support local farmers, is to participate in Community Supported Agriculture (CSA.)
When you join a CSA you buy a “share” from a local farm. The farm offers a limited number of shares.
By joining you help the farm maintain a predictable income, especially in the beginning of the season, when consumers purchase the CSA. Then you receive a weekly supply of locally grown produce.
The cost is for the whole season. Some farms have multiple seasons.
You may or may not have some say in what goes into your box. But you know that it will be local and in season. It’s a way to try vegetables that you normally wouldn’t think to buy.
In many cases, the farm will have a drop-off for its weekly CSA shares and you can pick them up at a store or farmers’ market. In some cases farms that are a little bit outside of the Charlotte region have a drop location in Charlotte.
Read on for a list of Charlotte area farms that offer CSAs. This is not a complete list. If you know of others that should be listed, please email info@charlotteonthecheap.com, and we might be able to add them, as time permits.
