The Town of Matthews and Discovery Place have announced plans to bring a new children’s museum to Matthews, North Carolina.
The partnership was announced on February 25, 2025 in a press release from Discovery Place.
The building will be funded through the Town of Matthews’ Tourism Fund. The location has not yet been determined. Discovery Place will oversee the up-fitting and operation of the museum.
The museum opening will not be for several years.
The Discovery Place Kids museum in Matthews is expected to be similar to Discovery Place Kids Huntersville, providing fun, hands-on learning experiences for children up to age 7.
Some features of Discovery Place Kids Huntersville:
- A “café” with a realistic oven, cashier’s checkout and table settings
- The Town Market, where kids can grocery shop
- Climbing wall and other physical challenges
- Water table
- Live shows
- Fire truck
- Outdoor garden space
- More
