How about starting 2021 with a treasure hunt? Could you use a $100 bill? No catches?
That’s the idea of Drop Parties. Charlotte resident Garrett James and soon-to-be Charlotte resident Charlie Wilson have been hosting Drop Parties in different places around the country, as a way of paying it forward, and now they’re planning to focus on the Queen City.
Here’s how it works.
Follow Drop Parties on Instagram. The account is private, so give them enough time to approve you.
They will bury a $100 bill in a small box like the one below, somewhere in a public place. When we say “bury” we don’t mean the kind of burying that involves heavy equipment or even necessarily a shovel.
They’ll put it at the base of a bush, or rest it on a tree branch near the ground. If they do bury it, it will be just below the surface, and they’ll post a video showing people how they’re burying it.
They’ll post the GPS co-ordinates of where they’ve hidden it.
They’ll be burying $100 every other Friday in Charlotte.
The next Drop Party is Friday, January 22nd, 2021.
Make sure to keep an eye on the Drop Party Instagram for the clue. They don’t give a specific time, but probably sometime between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Plug the GPS co-ordinates into your favorite mapping app and start searching!
If you are the lucky person to find the $100, tag Drop Parties on Instagram to let them know it’s been found, so that they can let others to stop looking.
