Kick off spooky season at Elmwood Cemetery, 700 W. 6th Street, Charlotte, on Sunday, October 3rd, 2021, at 3 p.m., with a performance of Spoon River Anthology. This event will combine stories and trombone music with the spooky backdrop of one of Charlotte’s most historic cemeteries.
Before you go, learn about Elmwood Cemetery in our photo guide to several historic Charlotte cemeteries.
This performance will feature a series of stories of Spoon River, a fictional small town, told from voices from beyond the grave.
Mixed with the monologues will be turn-of-the-century music performed by a quartet of Charlotte Symphony Orchestra trombonists, AKA The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
They’ll play music by John Phillip Sousa, Scott Joplin, and W.C. Handy – incorporating hymns, ragtime, blues, and classical works inspired by folk traditions such as Copland’s Appalachian Spring and the Largo from Dvořák’s New World Symphony.
Members of Mecklenburg Historic Association’s Voices From the Past will be interacting with guests.
This is a free event. No tickets or RSVPs are required. Seating will not be provided, so please bring your own lawn chairs or blankets.
