Charlotte Ballet’s going all out on making ballet fun, accessible and affordable for families. Their next performance, “Spring Works,” which runs April 28th, 2016, through April 30th at Knight Theater, features three unique ballets all suitable for the entire family. On Saturday, April 30th, Charlotte Ballet is offering a Family Matinee at 2 p.m. Children’s tickets are only $10, thanks to the generous support by sponsor Novant Health Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital. This $10 price for kids is for any available seat. Seats are limited and going quickly. Purchase now.
Before the show, starting at 1 p.m., there will be free children’s activities, related to the show that families are about to see. Kids will learn about ballet and music, get excited about the show, and most of all, have fun!
After the pre-show activities, join Charlotte Ballet’s dancers in the theater for three ballets for the whole family: “Who Cares?”, an exuberant ballet set to the popular music of Gershwin, “We Danced Through Life,” a joyous remembrance of life and love, and “World Premier with Jazz,” resident choreographer Dwight Rhoden’s new ballet, performed with music by a live jazz ensemble and jazz singer Gloria Reuben.
Here’s a special preview of the pre-show family activities:
- Mini Dance Classes — A professional Charlotte Ballet dance educator will lead mini dance and movement classes focused on vintage and modern jazz. Classes are held at 15-minute intervals so children can pop in and out as they like.
- Costume Exploration Station — Children design and create their very own dance costumes. They will be creating classical and contemporary tutus that they can wear right into the performance!
- Music Exploration — Interact with a live drummer and explore instruments with a focus on jazz and percussion. Children will explore various percussion instruments and try them out alongside the drummer.
