Salisbury’s next First Friday event “Come Tickle Our Ivories” will take place on Friday, May 1st, 2015, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in downtown Salisbury, at the square. A highlight of the event is the unveiling throughout downtown Salisbury of seven pianos that have been turned into works of art. Charlotte’s public piano installation has been a lot of fun, and now a similar project will bring art and music to Salisbury as well!

Come join us in a dual celebration of art & music in Downtown Salisbury! The ‘Come Tickle Our Ivories’ Project by the Salisbury Symphony will host its GRAND UNVEILING on Friday, May 1st from 5 – 9 pm in collaboration with Downtown Salisbury, Inc.’s First Friday event series. For the past several months, seven pianos which were donated to North, South, East and West Rowan; Carson; Salisbury and Henderson Independent High Schools, have been turned into fixtures of art by talented art students at each school. Not only will the pianos become public art located throughout Downtown Salisbury, they will be tuned, working pianos made available to passersby who want to sit down and ‘tickle the ivories.’ The pianos will be available on display and to play May 1st – September 30th. During the First Friday event families can enjoy the pianos and live music as well as traditional First Friday activities including free trolley rides, horse & carriage rides, strolling entertainment and late night shopping and dining. This is a FREE event and open to the public.
