Flower the People has found a way to do important things at the same time: Reduce waste and bring joy to residents of nursing homes.
How do they do it? They rescue excess flowers from florists, create arrangements from the flowers and give them to residents in nursing homes.
They are currently operating in three cities, including Charlotte, North Carolina, and two cities in Tennessee.
Approximately seven nursing homes in the Charlotte area are currently participating.
Read on to learn how you can get involved as a volunteer, a nursing home or a florist.
Volunteer
There are two ways to volunteer.
- Pick up flowers from participating florists and drop them off at the nursing home.
- Arrange flowers at nursing home and distribute them to residents.
Children are welcome to participate in the flower arranging and distribution. No flower arranging experience is required. A coordinator will be at the nursing home to make everything go smoothly.
Sign up to volunteer in one of these roles. Make sure to choose Charlotte as the city!
Signing up as a florist or nursing home
Are you a florist who would like to donate your excess flowers to Flower the People? Or are you involved with a nursing home, and you’d like the residents to receive flower arrangements?
In either case, just email flowerthepeopletn@gmail.com to learn more!
