Watch Olympic curlers compete with other internationally known curlers at the Grits ‘n’ Granite Bonspiel tournament at Extreme Ice Center, 4705 Indian Trail Fairview Road in Indian Trail from Friday, August 8th, 2014, through Sunday, August 10th. Four-time Olympic curler Debbie McCormick will be competing, as well as Canadian Alex Forrest and Charlotte Curling member Jamie Sinclair. The Friday draw includes Debbie McCormick’s team at 10:30 am, Jamie Sinclair at 1:00 pm and Alex Forrest at 3:30 pm.
The championship is scheduled for 11:00 am on Sunday, August 10. Curling tradition holds that competitors are piped onto the ice by a bagpiper followed by a toast to the piper with a shot of Scotch. Prior to the finals, Charlotte Curling Association member Andrea Jones will play the bagpipes. The Grits ‘n’ Granite toast will feature North Carolina moonshine.
Spectators are welcome at any of the games and it’s all free.
