Cinco de Mayo (May 5th), commemorates the Mexican army’s victory on May 5, 1862 over French forces at the Battle of Puebla. It’s often misunderstood to be Mexican Independence Day (which is on September 16.)
In Pueblo, Mexico, the day is celebrated with military parades, battle reenactments, and cultural performances. Here in America, celebrations are often just parties with a general Mexican theme, through music, food, drink, and decor.
