Both locations of Mint Museum offer free admission every Wednesday starting at 5:00 p.m. Often, one of them will feature a special program Wednesday evening, which is also free. On Wednesday, February 4th, 2015, from 6:30 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Mint Museum Uptown, at 500 South Tryon Street, will present Remembering the Artistry and Times of Romare Bearden and Maya Angelou: Art, Poetry and Music.
In recognizing February as Black History Month, local visual and performing artists will salute in memory two African-American legends with strong North Carolina ties: Charlotte-born artist Romare Bearden and Winston-Salem’s Maya Angelou; poet, actress and author, with works on easel, the spoken word, digital imagery, a theatrical excerpt and jazz music. Guests will be able to tour Conversations: Romare Bearden and Richard Hunt and the Contemporary Art Gallery to view numerous works by African-American artists prior to or following the program. Featured local visual and performing artists include Yolanda Bynum, Brock and Charli Montgomery, Quentin Talley, Symphony Webber, and a Jazz Arts Initiative youth musician.
