On Saturday, November 2nd, 2019, the President James K. Polk State Historic Site, 12031 Lancaster Highway, will celebrate the birthday of President Polk from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Tickets are $5 per car, and free for members of the Friends of President Polk’s Birthplace.
This event brings history to life and gives visitors a chance to experience the everyday life of backcountry settlers like the Polks.
Events, Demonstrations, and Activities including:
- Historic games
- Crafts
- Living history
- Historic Cooking Guild of the Catawba Valley cooks up a birthday meal
- Catawba Valley Fiber Guild spins yarn
- Spinning
- Riffle demonstrations
- Sign President Polk’s birthday card with a feather quill
- Try out chores from the past like washing laundry and stuffing a tick mattress
All proceeds raised from this the event go to the Friends of the Polk Birthplace (www.jameskpolk.net) a non profit, 501 (c)(3) that supports the educational mission of the museum.
