TreesCharlotte, an organization dedicated to increasing Charlotte’s tree canopy, holds several free TreeStores every year. At these events, Charlotte residents can receive free trees, as well as training on how to care for them. The first one of the fall will feature everything from evergreens to flowering trees to oaks and maples. You must show proof of Charlotte residency to receive your two free trees.

U.S. National Whitewater Center’s autumn celebration features live music by Yarn and JR JR, film, the Build Your Own Boat Competition and Race, obstacle trail races and cider tasting. It’s free to attend the festival, but there are charges for the boat competition, obstacle races and cider tasting.

Celebrate Halloween with NoDa at NovelWeen, presented by Novel NoDa, The NoDa Neighborhood Association / NodaNews, and the Johnston YMCA. The events start at the community plaza at Novel NoDa Apartments, at 4 p.m.:

The newest festival on the Whitewater Center’s calendar, Outdoor Market, offers a first-hand chance to see and demo gear from top brands in the outdoor industry across various sports and disciplines. Over three days, this festival offers guests the opportunity to demo bikes, trail running shoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, climbing gear and more. There will also be live music by Mipso, Cranford Hollow, The Older Brothers, Calexico, The Brook & The Bluff, and more.

Watch some of Charlotte’s most creative people create magnificent jack-o-lanterns. The pumpkin carving contest benefits Make-a-Wish. Vote on your favorite pumpkin creation for the People’s Choice award, enjoy food and drink, take pictures at a photo booth, get some temporary tattoos, and more. There will be trick-or-treating for the kids.

Lucky Dog Bark & Brew’s Pug-o-Ween is for humans 21 and older, pugs, and other pups who like pugs. The party will benefit the Mid Atlantic Pug Rescue. 10% of bar sales will be donated to Mid Atlantic Pug Rescue, and donations will be collected as well. There will be a costume contest for the dogs, bobbing for beers for the people, and more. All dogs must be fixed, friendly and up to date on shots.
