Let Creation Sing! A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols is a free event presented by Uptown Church at Great Aunt Stella Center on Sunday, December 10th, 2016, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Details, from Uptown Church:
LET CREATION SING
Uptown’s 7th annual Festival of Lessons & Carols
In 1918, Eric Milner-White, the Dean of Kings College in Cambridge, England designed a Christmas Eve service incorporating traditional Christmas carols and hymns, with a fixed liturgy of nine scripture lessons to be read aloud. His was an adaptation of an order he discovered by the Arch-bishop of Canterbury, 38 years prior.
Each year on the evening of the Third Sunday of Advent, our tradition is to use this same liturgy and make it our own. It has become an immensely festive and worshipful occasion, as well as an exhibition of artistry, musicianship, poetry, decoration and food.
There are two opportunities to attend Lessons & Carols. Both services will be on December 11 at 4pm and 7pm. Childcare will only be offered at the 4pm service (by reservation only), and our desire is to offer this earlier service for the convenience of families with children. To reserve a spot or spots for your children, please visit our website and register by December 4, at which point registration closes for L&C.
A reception will follow both services downstairs in the cafe with lots of food, drink and fellowship. We hope to see you there to celebrate Christ whom heaven adores!
