Discovery Place has a new exhibit, Guitar: The Instrument that Rocked The World, that will run from May 30th, 2015, through September 7th. The exhibit will showcase nearly 100 historical artifacts, including more than 60 guitars, from the vihuela of 16th century Spain to the Fender Stratocaster. There will be lots of hands-on interactives, the world’s largest playable guitar, a chance to try out a number of instruments, and even a chance to build your own guitar.
In conjunction with this exhibit, Discovery Place is presenting Six String Saturdays, free performances at 2:00 p.m. every Saturday on the Tryon Street patio outside the museum. You don’t need to be a museum visitor to enjoy these 45-minute sets; they’re free for everyone. The performances will spotlight a wide array of genres and should be lots of fun. Here’s the schedule:
