Stimulus: Fantasy is a free event on Thursday, October 25th, 2018, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., at McColl Center for Art + Innovation, 721 N. Tryon Street.
From the McColl Center’s website:
What inspires artists to create? What stimulates their imaginations? Stimulus offers you deeper insight into the work and ideas of contemporary artists. These sessions aim to make connections between current McColl Center artists-in-residence, McColl Center alumni artists, and our constantly evolving local arts community.
Artists are inspired by many things: culture, nature, and food, to name a few. What about the intangible things that cannot be physically seen, witnessed, or held? The intangible things, dreamt up by an artist’s imagination, that find themselves situated more in the realm of a fantasy world rather than our actual reality?
During STIMULUS: FANTASY, current McColl Center artists-in-residence Liz Miller and Juan Dolhare, alumnus artist Charles Williams (2015), and performance artist Sherrill Roland will share what fantastic visions, illusions, and experiences they’ve had as individuals and how it has affected their work and their realities as artists.
Join us and these four multidisciplinary artists as we question and share what is real, and discuss some examples of their works that dance on that thin line of fantasy.
Free admission, complimentary beer and wine, and everyone is welcome. You are encouraged to bring an object that inspires you to share with the artists and other participants. STIMULUS: FANTASY is organized by Queens University of Charlotte professor Jessica Gaynelle Moss.
