Kings Mountain National Military Park, 2625 Park Road, Blacksburg, SC, preserves the site of the Battle of Kings Mountain. This battle, fought on October 7th, 1780, was an important American victory during the Revolutionary War. The battle was the first major patriot victory to occur after the British invasion of Charleston, SC in May 1780.
There are a variety of events at Kings Mountain National Military Park every year, and most are free. Next up:
June 11: Children’s Colonial Day – 10:00 – 4:00: Kids can dress as 18th century kids did, play 18th century games, and much more. Come join in the fun.
June 11: Find Your Park After Dark – 8:30 PM: The Carolina Skygazers Astronomy Club will be on the front lawn with telescopes of all shapes and sizes. Come out and enjoy a night of star gazing.
June 25: Junior Ranger Day – 10 AM-4 PM – Children get a firsthand look at some of the jobs rangers do on a daily basis. They will have the opportunity to earn their own Junior Ranger Badge and certificate.
July 2 – 3: Fourth of July Encampment: Backcountry Militia will be encamped this weekend demonstrating a variety of skills from the 18th Century.
July 23 – 24: North Carolina Highland Regiment Encampment – NC Highland Regiment will be encamped at Kings Mountain, come learn about this Loyalist Regiment.
August 6 – 7: Backcountry Militia Encampment – Backcountry Militia will be encamped this weekend demonstrating a variety of skills from the 18th Century.
