This ‘Symphony Saturdays’ series encourages children and their parents to get out and enjoy live music along Charlotte’s Rail Trail. The music and the Rail Trail Symphony site were made possible by the Ka-BOOM! Play Everywhere Challenge grant received by Charlotte Center City Partners in September 2016.
Rail Trail Symphony includes colorful instruments (chimes and drums), seating options, and a small performance stage in a grassy area near the New Bern station along the LYNX Blue Line, next to the B-cycle station. The Symphony is intended to be a fun, playful project for people of all ages to interact with while they are waiting for the train or passing by on the Trail.
The Jolly Lollies are the musical creation of singer-songwriters, Liz Corwin and Holly Johnson. Based in Charlotte, they are known for teaching early childhood music in preschools and for leading music programs for Music Together of Charlotte. According to their website, the Jolly Lollies work to support the emotional and physical development of children through interactive music play.
The Symphony Saturday performances are designed to be interactive experiences where audiences sing, dance and play along with the Jolly Lollies using the Rail Trail Symphony’s colorful chimes, drums and small performance stage.
The Rail Trail Symphony is intended to be a fun, playful area for people of all ages to interact with while they are waiting for the train or passing by on the Trail. Conveniently located on the Rail Trail and near the LYNX Blue Line’s New Bern station and next to a B-cycle station, Symphony Saturdays and the Rail Trail Symphony are the perfect biking, pedestrian or stroller destination.
