The Evening Muse, 3227 North Davidson Street, is hosting a free listening party for the new album “The Fall and Rise of John Elderkin and ¡Moonbeams No Mas!” on Sunday, February 19th, 2017, at 5 p.m. The event is for all ages.
The concept album, created as a sequel to David Bowie’s landmark “Ziggy Stardust” record, was recorded with a group of local musicians. The cosmic-themed celebration at The Evening Muse will provide an entertaining, storytelling atmosphere as the narrative unfolds.
The Fall and Rise of John Elderkin and ¡Moonbeams No Mas! picks up where the story left off. The record works as a rock opera, with characters and plot, but it is not a musical homage to Bowie. Instead, John Elderkin has collected a group of fellow North Carolinians to create their own Everyperson’s epic story of hope, loss, and resilience. And a trip to the moon.
Collaborators include R.E.M. producer Don Dixon, Robert Sledge from Ben Folds Five, Lay Quiet Awhile’s Danielle Howle, Jay Garrigan of the Temperance League, Spongetone Chris Garges, Chuck Garrison of Pipe/Zen Frisbee/Superchunk, John Ensslin of What Peggy Wants, Mark Simonsen of Old Ceremony, Dillon Fence’s Kent Alphin, and Pressure Boy John Plymale.
John Elderkin has written and performed in The Popes, The Lovely Lads, and The Public Good.
