Mint Museum Uptown is celebrating World Wide Knit in Public Day on Saturday, June 14th, 2014, by admitting knitters and other fiber artists for free from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you bring your knitting needles, hooks or spinning wheel, you will gain free admittance to the museum. The Charlotte Knitting Guild hosts this event with the museum in the Atrium of the Mint Museum Uptown. There will be information about the Guild, door prizes, a swap table, demonstrations, and opportunities for the public to try their hand. Demonstrations will include learning how to knit, hand felting, and, new this year, kumihimo or Japanese cord braiding.
Non-knitters are also admitted for free into the atrium, where they can see what the knitters and other fiber artists are up to. However, they will have to pay the general admission rate, $10 for adults, to visit the galleries.
