Children’s Theatre of Charlotte brings the play “Liars” to every middle school in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools System through the Drama for Healthy Living program. The program uses drama to talk to kids at a critical time about alcohol and substance abuse prevention.
This is the story:
Lenny and Jace are classmates. Despite apparently different personalities, they have one thing in common: they’re both children of an alcoholic parent. The play addresses alcohol and substance abuse. Liars deals with the effects that a parent’s addiction to alcohol can have on a family and the strength and support that Lenny and Jace find in their discovery that they’re not alone in their problems.
The goal of the play, which supports North Carolina Essential Standards in Health Education for eighth-graders, is to give students information concerning alcohol and substance abuse to make healthy, informed, positive choices and choose effective ways to deal with peer and societal pressure.
Children’s Theatre of Charlotte is presenting Liars to the public in a free performance on Tuesday, October 30th, 2017, at 7:00 p.m, in the McColl Family Theatre in ImaginOn, 300 E. 7th Street.
Although it’s free, register online or by phone at 704-973-2828. The play is recommended for those age 12 and older.
A counselor from Dilworth Center will be on hand at all performances.
