International House, 1817 Central Venue, Suite 215, is hosting a free workshop on creating Pop-Up Books on Sunday, November 11th, 2018, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Creatively share your family cultural/heritage story through a handmade personal picture book.
Celebrate Charlotte’s cultural diversity and bridge our differences through art.
Artists, MyLoan Dinh, Michelle “Bunny” Gregory and Heather Harper will instruct and assist attendees on how to make simple pop up books.
The free event is open to all ages and backgrounds. Families with children are welcome.
Space is limited. To let the organizers know how much supplies to provide, please register by emailing weseeheaven@movingpoets.org by November 10th.
It would be helpful if participants bring copies/prints of family photos and writings/poems, etc to paste in your popup book. No artistic talent required – just bring enthusiasm and an open mind. All art supplies are provided free of charge.
Presented by Moving Poets Charlotte. The workshop is part of We See Heaven Upside Down, an evolving multidisciplinary art project responding to challenges of migration, displacement, and identity in contemporary society. We See Heaven Upside Down is made possible in part by the 2018 Arts & Science Council Cultural Vision Grant.
Participant Popup books will be displayed at a public and free Pop-Up exhibition and Potluck dinner at International House in 2019 (date to be announced). After the event, you will get to keep your book.
