Charlotte Fire Department is offering FREE 5-day, 4-night resident camps for teenagers to learn firefighting skills. They will stay in air-conditioned Urban Search and Rescue tents on the CFD/CMPD Training Academy Property at 1770 Shopton Road.
The camps are for students in 9th to 12th grades.
The girls’ camp is Camp Ignite and it takes place June 18th to June 22nd, 2019.
The boys’ camp is Camp Hornet’s Nest and it takes place June 23rd to June 27th, 2019.

NOTE: It appears that registration for the girls’ camp might be closed but that registration for the boys’ camp is open.
All necessary firefighting gear and equipment will be provided. All meals are included, as well as an official camp t-shirt.
While at the camp, students will train alongside professional firefighters. (Girls will train alongside female firefighters.) Students will learn search and rescue techniques, hose-line advancement, rappelling, ladders and more. They’ll learn about the traditions of the Charlotte Fire Department.
On the last day, family and friends will be invited to a graduation celebration and reception.
