Charlotte Friends Meeting, at 570 Rocky River Road West, will host Let Me Be Your Salty Dog: Charlotte’s Stringband Heyday, a celebration of the sounds of 1930s Charlotte, when our city out-shown Nashville as a hub of country music. On Saturday, May 9th, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. this free program, sponsored by the Robinson-Spangler Carolina Room of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, Levine Museum and Charlotte Folk Society, will present music by The Kollard Kings. The band includes Tom Estes on banjo, Donnie Murray (songwriter for the John Boy & Billy radio show) on guitar, West Virginian Michael Plumley on bass, and Levine Museum historian, Dr. Tom Hanchett, on fiddle.
Enjoy songs by the “Father of Bluegrass,” Bill Monroe, and the legendary Carter Family, as well as such local luminaries as Mainer’s Mountaineers and Arthur Smith.
