Photographer Rémy Louis Thurston is putting the spotlight on one of North Carolina’s most important crops, sweet potatoes, at Sous Terrain–a sweet potato art show on Friday, January 6th, 2016, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Free Range Brewing, 2320 North Davidson Street. Thurston photographed inventive sweet potato dishes and drinks created by Charlotte’s sous chefs and apprentices over the last six months. The show will be on exhibit the rest of the month.
But that’s not all. This is a full immersion sweet potato experience. While you view the photographs, enjoy a sweet potato beer and a sweet potato dish.
Several sweet potato dishes will be available for purchase:
- The Masa Casa: sweet potato tamales
- Terra Flora – Fine Plant Foods: sweet potato fries with a variety of sauces
- Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen: sweet potato cotton candy (for the first hour or until supplies run out)
Here’s a list of the sous chefs and restaurants who participated by creating dishes to be photographed:
- Miranda Brown from 300 East
- Andres Pico formerly of Customshop
- Alex Verica from Heritage food & drink
- Larry Suggs from The Punch Room
- Manny Fresco formerly of Pinky’s Westside Grill
