CharlotteFive presents The Art of Yoga on Thursday, May 18th, 2017, at 6 p.m. This event includes a free Yoga class, taught by CharlotteFive’s Katie Toussaint, on the plaza of the Levine Center for the Arts, in front of the Mint Museum in uptown Charlotte.
Gates open for the Yoga class at 5:30 p.m. Sign up for the Yoga class in advance. Space is limited.
In addition, the museums at Levine Center for the Arts, including Mint Museum Uptown, Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, and The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, will all be offering free admission starting at 6 p.m. You do not have to register in advance for the museum admission.
Here’s a little of what you can expect at the museums:
Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture: Enjoy the popular Gantt After Dark, which will center around photography and the exhibit Zun Lee: Father Figure. A docent-led tour begins at 7:30 p.m. Gantt After Dark features live music, food and more.
Mint Museum Uptown: Enjoy a cash bar, pick up a yoga mat or souvenir in the Mint Museum Shop, and visit the exhibition State of the Art: Discovering American Art Now as well as the final days of the pop-up show Kidnapped Pagans.
Bechtler Museum of Modern Art: See the newly opened exhibition, “Celebrating Jean Tinguely and Santana,” a survey of more than 80 artworks from the revolutionary Swiss kinetic artist.
Other free museum opportunities this week
In addition to the free museum admission during The Art of Yoga event, there are some other opportunities for free admission to museums this week.
Art Break: Also on Thursday, May 18th, Art Break is a chance for those spending their day in Center City Charlotte to get a quick dose of art during their lunch break. The three above museums, will each offer a 30-minute tour at noon. This event takes place the third Thursday of every month.
Bechtler by Night: The Bechtler Museum offers free admission on Friday, May 19th, starting at 5:00 p.m. Take part in scavenger hunts, special tours and art-making activities.
Family Fun Day at Charlotte Museum of History: Saturday, May 20th, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., visit Charlotte Museum of History for free. There will be lots of hands-on stuff for kids to do, with a special focus on Meck Dec Day.
Mint Museum: Every Wednesday, both locations of Mint Museum offer free admission starting at 5 p.m.
