The brand new University City Regional Library’s grand opening will take place Saturday, February 8, 2025.
The library is at 5528 Waters Edge Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina. 8700 JW Clay Blvd might work better in GPS for now. It’s just over the bridge from Shoppes at University Place, and about a .6 mile walk (or less) from the JW Clay Blvd light rail station.
It’s also walkable to multiple restaurants at Shoppes at University Place, and to the walking trail around the pond.
The 35,000 square-foot, two-story building will include rooms dedicated for youth programs, studying, community programs and meetings, a youth workroom, a pre-teen and teen area, and more.
The grand opening celebration of the library is scheduled for Saturday, February 8, 2025.
Some of the activities at the grand opening:
- 10 a.m.: Artist Talk with Anne Lemanski, whose life-size sculpture of an Appaloosa horse, made entirely of hand-stitched archival paper, is on the second floor of the library.
- 11 a.m.: Stories with Mother Minter.
- 11 a.m.: Teen Gaming with Mighty Meeple
- 12:30: Performance by A Sign of the Times of the Carolinas. Sign of the Times shares Black history through their music.
- 1 p.m.: Puppet show and entertainment by Stewart Andrew Nowlin
- 2:30 p.m.: Performance by Nouveau Sud Circus Project. Enjoy dance, acrobatic and physical theatre.
- 3:30: UNC Charlotte Music showcase
