From the Facebook event:
Falconry is the art of taking wild quarry with a trained bird of prey. This ancient sport was once used to put food on the table, but is now practiced by people passionate about participating in the daily dance for survival of our amazing raptors.
Join HAWK as we present Bob Pendergrass and Cindy Bernhardt of the NC Falconry Guild as they talk about the history and practice of falconry. They will be bringing one of their birds to educate us on this sport that has been used for centuries.
Bob has been practicing falconry for over 40 years, after being inspired as a teenager by “Summer of the Falcon” by Jean Craighead George. He is the Animal Services Director for Rowan County. Cindy Bernhardt is the Vice President of the NC Falconry Guild and is a wildlife rehabilitator and a teaching assistant at Cleveland Elementary School.
