UNC Charlotte College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is hosting a FREE event to commemorate the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Power of the People 25th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall will take place Sunday, November 9th, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at UNC Charlotte Center City, 320 East 9th Street. Mario Röllig, who spent 3 months in East Berlin’s Hohenschönhausen prison in 1987 for trying to flee communist East Germany, will tell his story at 2:00 p.m. Other activities during the afternoon will include simultaneous showings of a documentary and a feature film, “The Lives of Others,” beginning at 3:00 p.m., a symbolic tearing down of the “wall” about 5:30 p.m., and an exhibit of photography, news articles and student projects — a collaboration of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, Gaston County Schools and Deutsche Schule Charlotte, the German Language School. It’s free, but please register in advance. Parking is available in nearby lots.
