
The Japan-America Society of North Carolina and the newly formed Japanese Cultural Association of the Carolinas are hosting a Spring Matsuri on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1001 Queens Road, Charlotte, North Carolina.
A matsuri is a Japanese festival, often celebrated with dance and music.
Admission is free.
At this Japanese Spring Festival, enjoy: music, dance and Aikido performances and demonstrations, and vendors selling baked goods and homemade items (cash or Venmo only.)
Children’s activities include origami, coloring, and chigiri-e (a Japanese art form that uses colored paper torn to create images.)

Program Schedule
- 3:00-3:05 p.m.: Opening Remarks – Tomoko Deguchi, JCAC/Michi Calcagno, JASNC
- 3:05-3:10 p.m.: Wadaiko performance by SAIL students
- 3:10-3:15 p.m.: Soran-bushi dancing with audience participation by SAIL students
- 3:25-3:40 p.m.: Mini-lecture on Hinamatsuri/Sakura/Children’s Day by Anthony Black
- 3:50-4:05 p.m.: Japanese songs by Naoko Watanabe and Tomoko Deguchi
- 4:15-4:30 p.m.: Aikido demonstration by Matthew Attarian
- 4:40-4:55 p.m.: Dance by Hana-akari Japanese dance troupe
- 4:55-5:00 p.m.: Closing remarks – Tomoko Deguchi, JCAC/Michi Calcagno, JASNC
Parking
Parking is available at the church, on the other side of Queens Rd., and along Edgehill Rd. Parking is limited and is on a first come first serve basis.
