The Last Word, a used book and media store in the university area, at 230 East W.T. Harris Boulevard, is celebrating its fourth anniversary with some birthday cake on Tuesday, November 11th, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. But it’s the customers who are providing the cake. The Last Word is holding a contest for the best book- or media-inspired cake. That might be a cake decorated like the cover of a favorite book, cookies decorated like CDs, brownies shaped like vinyl records, etc. The grand prize winner will get $100 in premium store credit and 2nd and 3rd place winners will get prizes too. The owners will judge the entries on taste, theme and presentation, but customers will get to vote too. The winners will be announced at 6:00 p.m. and cake will be eaten. In addition, all day, for every $20 you spend you’ll get a raffle ticket to win a $40 gift card. If you’d like to compete in the bake-off, you need to sign up by November 9th. You can do that on the website or in the store.
