Aurora Star Lit Cinema is presenting a Mario Kart 64 Tournament at Camp North End. The event will take place 6 to 10 p.m. every Thursday in April, 2023.
Mario Kart 64 will be played on Nintendo 64, projected on the big screen at the Historic Ford Building at Camp North End, 1824 Statesville Avenue, Charlotte.
It’s $5 to enter the tournament. There will be a cash grand prize, as well as prizes for 2nd and 3rd place.
It’s free to watch, and the arcade tent will be set up to enjoy in-between matches as well as free play on two additional TVs, with Gamecube and Super Nintendo.
Black Moth Bars will have cocktails, beer, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase.
Prizes
- 1st place – Cash prize of $100-200 (Depending on the number of entries)
- 2nd place – Black Moth Bars gift card and Aurora SLC T-shirt
- 3rd place – Black Moth Bars gift card
Tournament Rules
- The tournament will be a double elimination bracket – 64 player max (following numbers might be adjusted based on the number of players)
- 1st round – 64 players (4 per race – 16 races)
- 2nd round – 32 players (4 per race – 8 races)
- 3rd round – 16 players (4 per race – 4 races)
- 4th round – 8 players (2 per race – 4 races)
- Final round – Top 4 players (4 per race – 3 races)
- Points will be awarded for each race in the final round – the highest total points wins: 1st – 9 points | 2nd – 6 points | 3rd – 3 points | 4th – 1 point
- All courses will be randomly selected and played at 150cc
- Character selection for each race will depend on a number randomly chosen during check-in | new numbers will be selected after each round
- No pausing
- The use of known glitches will result in the forfeiture of race. Skillcuts (i.e., Wario Stadium and Rainbow Road jumps) are allowed
- Personal remote control are allowed long as they are compatible with a Nintendo 64 console
