Mecklenburg County is offering help to residents with their heating bills, through the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP), a federal program.
If you are struggling to pay your power bill, you might be eligible for a one-time, direct-to-utility-company payment in the amount of $300, $400, or $500. You do not have to be at risk for disconnection, and you don’t need to be delinquent on payments to qualify. Applicants must meet income guidelines, be responsible for the bill, provide their account number, and show proof of income.
Applications are open from January 1 to March 31, 2025.
Households must meet the following criteria:
- At least one eligible U.S. citizen or legal resident
- Be responsible for the heating cost
- Income at or below 150% (60 years of age or older) or 130% (under 60) of the Federal Poverty Limit
Go here to get the form, which is available January 1 to March 31, 2025. You’ll also find more information about how to apply, and contact information in case you have questions.
