The MLK Day Parade returns to Uptown Charlotte on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Its route is on Tryon Street, from 9th Street to Brooklyn Village Avenue.
Let Freedom Ring: A Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin L. King, Jr.
Theatre Charlotte, at 501 Queens Road, Charlotte, NC, is presenting Let Freedom Ring: A Celebration of the Life and Legacy of Dr. Martin L. King, Jr., on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. The production includes dance, dramatizations, spoken word and music. Admission is free.
Call to Service with United Way
The United Way is hosting a volunteer activity on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Northside Baptist Church, 333 Jeremiah Blvd, Charlotte, North Carolina. Participants will assemble snack packs for students attending tutoring and after-school programs supported by the United Way. Registration is required.
Martin Luther King, Jr. P.E.A.C.E. Basketball Showcase
The P.E.A.C.E. Basketball Showcase takes place at West Charlotte High School on Saturday, January 13, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is $10.
Bridging Musical Worlds — A Celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.
A Sign of the Times Carolina presents Bridging Musical Worlds — A Celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr., on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 4 p.m., at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 3400 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, North Carolina. This concert features music from the jazz, folk, R&B and classical traditions. There will be performances by A Sign of the Times, Charlotte Strings Collective, UNC Charlotte Music Department, Charlotte Folk Society and Tosco Music. Tickets are $10.
Art * Poetry * Music Concert with Opera Carolina
Opera Carolina is presenting Art / Poetry / Music, a concert celebrating the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is free to attend and takes place Sunday, January 14, 2024, at 4 p.m., at Caldwell Presbyterian Church, 1609 E 5th Street, Charlotte, North Carolina. This is a moving collaborative concert fusing music, spoken word and visual art, with selected readings from Dr. King’s iconic speeches.
MLK Day at Gantt Center: Truth & Reconciliation
Harvey Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, 551 S Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC, is hosting a free event for all ages. MLK Day 2024: Truth & Reconciliation takes place Monday, January 15, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Programming includes children’s activities, panel discussions, art and more.

The Dr. MLK Jr. Celebration Planning Committee of Concord-Cabarrus has several events planned, including:
- MLK Dream Day Parade, Saturday, January 13, 2024, 11 a.m. from MLK Avenue and Main Street to City Hall, 401 Laureate Way, Kannapolis.

Normally there are “Day of Service” opportunities on MLK Day. So far the website where those are listed hasn’t been updated for 2021, so I don’t know if they’re not being organized this year. I’ll keep checking though, and update this post if I see them.
