On Thursday, January 31st, 2019, at 7:30 p.m., Charlotte City Councilman At-Large Braxton Winston will moderate a discussion with Lil Buck and Jon Boogz at Movement Art Is, at McGlohon Theater at Spirit Square, 345 N. College Street.
The event will include the discussion between Lil Buck and Jon Boogz, a dance piece featuring the duo and a screening of their award-winning short film, “Color of Reality.”
This is a free event but you have to reserve tickets.

MAI (Movement Art Is) is an organization that uses movement artistry to inspire and change the world while elevating the artistic, educational, and social impact of dance. Join MAI co-founders Jon Boogz and Lil Buck at the intimate McGlohon Theater as they present their work and discuss dance as a tool to educate and empower.
The evening will include a moderated conversation and powerful dance piece featuring the duo, as well as a screening of their award-winning short film, “Color of Reality.” See how MAI is resetting the spectrum of what dance is and inspiring change in the world.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Jon Boogz is a movement artist, choreographer, and director who pushes the evolution of dance – sharing his art form with audiences of all backgrounds while inspiring and bringing awareness to social issues. With collaborators and clients including Mikhail Baryshnikov, Naomi Campbell, and TriBeCa Film Festival, Boogz’s most recent critically acclaimed project is Color of Reality, a short film he wrote, directed, and choreographed in collaboration with visual artist Alexa Meade and dancer Lil Buck. Lil Buck is a movement artist who began jookin at age 13.
Named one of Dance Magazine’s 25 to Watch, he gained international notoriety after an impromptu piece with Yo-Yo Ma went viral. Since then he has collaborated with artists including JR, Damian Woetzel, the New York City Ballet, Madonna, Benjamin Millepied, and Spike Lee. Buck is an avid arts education advocate, recipient of the WSJ Innovator Award. He has collaborated with brands like Glenfiddich and Louis Vuitton, and launched a capsule collection with Versace.
ABOUT THE MODERATOR
Braxton Winston was elected in 2017 as an at-large member and is serving his first term on council.
Winston is a stagehand and grip and a member of Charlotte’s thriving sports television and entertainment production community. He is a proud member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Union.
Winston is also an influential citizen-journalist, producing stories not covered by traditional media outlets and employing new models of citizen engagement.
Winston holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Davidson College, where he was a two-time letterman on the football team.
