Charlotte Art League, at 1517 Camden Road, is holding free movie nights. The movies will be about art or artists. The events are intended for those 18 and older. Donations will be accepted. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the movies start at 7 p.m. Bring your own snacks and drinks.
May 17 – “Basquiat” (Biography/Drama,1996) The story of young artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, who rose from a homeless New York street artist to a star in Andy Warhol’s art world. But with success came the loss of friendship, love, and, eventually, his life. Rated R; 108 mins.
May 31 – “Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle” (Biography/Drama, 1994) The story of humorist Dorothy Parker and her recollections of the legendary Algonquin Round Table, a group of New York writers who met daily during the 1920s, and as a result changed the face of American humor. Rated R; 125 mins.
